Chandigarh: The students of Students for Society (SFS) Panjab University on Tuesday held protest demonstration and burnt effigy of PM Modi against the decision of Centre government to ban NDTV news channel for a day.
SFS leader Harman said, “The incidents like JNU, aggressive propaganda of Surgical Strike, Encounters of Maoists & Adivasis in Orissa and 8 under trial SIMI activists in Bhopal and ban on NDTV should be viewed in a series and not separately. The BJP RSS, under the cover of ‘nationalism’, has been propagating their agenda of Hindutva on one hand and also pursuing anti people economic policies on another hand.”
He further added, “The government has failed in all aspects from industrial growth to jobs creation despite aggressive campaign of Make in India, startups etc. Anyone who dare to
question and expose the government become their target. After the ban on media in Kashmir and Bastar now it extends to mainstream media too. We should rise against the fascist tendencies of Modi government.”
Meanwhile, the Information & Broadcasting ministry issued a notice ordering that NDTV India will be taken off the air for 24 hours on November 9, for giving out “strategically sensitive” details on the Pathankot terror attack that took place in the first week of January this year. Since the Modi government came in power has been suppressing the voices in the name of nationalism, national security etc.
