The student centre at Panjab University which has always been the hot spot for the students can be seen in bad shape recently. The litters, the mud, the broken seats, non availability of proper sitting arrangements in rainy and sunny weather are some of the issues that are visible. Others include the bad conditions of kitchen of various shops, empty alcohol bottles lying at the back side and no cleanliness. Students from time to time have been seeking better facilities at the students centre. Gurjot, art student said, “Here at student centre, we are always waiting for someone to leave the place so that we can have a shady place to sit and eat.”
Another student, Sharan from MSC says, “Weather these days is so unpredictable hat you never when it is sunny and when it start raining. Not every student can take shelter under the trees and rest of the seats are already taken up.” Improvement of Students’ Centre can be done by providing better seating with the spare seats that are lying to rot in open at the back side.
Students have also been demanding for the adequate facilities of handwashing. Also the rates need to be cut down a little according to them because students are eating there and not everyone can afford all the high prices. And speaking on the matter DSW (W) Nandita Singh says, “The matter of broken shelters will be sent to ex-en for action. He can make cemented platforms for them to stand and others can also be used again to increase the seats. The issue of alcohol bottles will be discussed with the chief security to keep a check on the serving staff in the kitchens. Because all this might be going on in night only and night security needs to be tightened.”
