Panchkula: Haphazard parking, traffic congestion and struggle to find parking space are the most common scenes witnessed daily outside the Mini-Secretariat and the District Courts Complex, Panchkula. However, the administration following the parking mess is dependent on the multi-level project slated to come up in May this year, but they do not have any immediate plan in sight to solve the problem.
Also, with a huge rush of visitors to the Mini-Secretariat, which houses offices of all senior district-level officers, and litigants to the District Courts Complex nearby, the parking space is limited and most of the visitors park their vehicles on roadside, which leads to scuffles over parking many times.
Four-wheelers and two-wheelers are thus parked either alongside the road or on the pavement and even for those visiting District Courts, the problem is perennial.
Meanwhile, in a move to end parking woes of residents visiting the Mini-Secretariat and the District Courts Complex, Sector 1, the district administration has planned for a multi-level parking outside the Mini-Secretariat following which the work of the same is under construction.
The project of multi-level parking was announced in 2013, but it remained on paper due to lack of adequate funds.
The multi-level parking has been under construction on one-acre plot in Sector 1 outside the District Courts Complex where the parking lot is currently maintained by the District Red Cross Society. It will have a capacity of around 500 vehicles.
“All arrangements have been made by the administration, and the work is going on smoothly which will conclude in May. This multi-level parking will have a capacity of around 500 vehicles with administrative offices on the upper floors,” said Harpal Singh, Executive Engineer, Public Works Department.
As per the layout plan, a six-storeyed building is under construction, in which first three floors will be reserved for parking of vehicles that includes two basements and a ground floor, and the upper three floors will have offices of district-level officers. Some offices from the Mini-Secretariat will be shifted to the building.
The construction of the multi-level parking is one of the long-pending demands of the residents of Panchkula due to the bad condition of the current parking space.
