Chandigarh: The Chandigarh police on Wednesday have arrested a person in a case of forgery and cheating in which a resident of Chandigarh was defrauded worth crores. The accused fraudulently provided the complainant with forged cheques following a sale deed.
The accused has been identified as Abhishek Sharma, a resident of Kurukshetra who came in contact with the complainant following some property matter. Subash Bansal, resident of Sector 21-D had alleged that Abhishek gave fake cheques to him worth Rs 1,02,75528 and 7574480 for the sale agreement of an office site in Zirakpur and a flat in Kharar
According to the police, while investigating the case, it was learnt that the accused gave fake cheques of different amounts to the complainant related to a property deal and soon after receiving the cheques, the complainant within hours came to know that the same is forged to which he informed the police.
‘’As soon as the complainant informed about the same, we investigated the matter and it was found that the accused had forged and have applied fake cheques to the complainant.to which he has been arrested on the same day’’, told Station House Officer, Baljit Singh, Sector 34 police station.
A case has been registered against the accused under sections 419 (Punishment for cheating by personation), 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 467 (Forgery of valuable security, will, etc) of the Indian Penal Code and investigation of the case is in progress.
