Chandigarh: Machines used for physiotherapy at Civil Hospital, Sector-22, Chandigarh, have been lying defunct for two years for want of repair and service. The apathy and lethargic attitude of the UT Health Department seem to be responsible for this lapse.
As unserviceable machines used in therapy including treadmill and twister were found unused and have become so-called show-pieces that those remain aside in the corridors of the hospital.
Two years ago, the department had been issued a series of guidelines relating to condemnation and disposal of waste equipment that have become obsolete and non-working in the government hospitals but the condemned equipment in the hospital premises occupies a lot of space, creating a bad image of the government hospital.
After talking to Dr Puneet, a physiotherapist, he said, “I am here for the last two years and these equipment remained condemned before I took the responsibility and wrote to the Senior Medical Officer (SMO) for the disposal of these equipment and provide new equipment for the exercise”.
Moreover, not only these apparatus are to be destroyed but also the obsolete furniture which is occupying a large area in the dispensary that includes wooden-chairs, table, stretcher, and benches.
Vishal, Assistant of SMO said, “Repair and disposal of these useless equipment is under the supervision of Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH) in Sector-16. However, many times we have writtento the administration for condemnation of these unserviceable equipment and furniture that are of no use for the hospital but no action has been taken till now”.
Although, hospital is having sufficient area but if this condemned equipment is disposed, then spacing of the hospital can increase automatically.
