Chandigarh: Chandigarh Traffic Police has started to act tough against frequent traffic violators. In just past five days, Police have suspended nearly 90 driving licences.
Eish Singhal, SSP Traffic Police said “The cops have been asked to be strict against the violators as we have received guidelines from Supreme Court. The exact number of driving licenses suspended is not confirmed till date but it is near 100”.
Chandigarh traffic Police have initiated to suspend driving license of the vehicle driver for a minimum period of 3 months if the driver of vehicle is found violating red light, over speeding the vehicle, using mobile while driving or ferrying passengers in goods vehicle.
We have received orders from the concerned authority to suspend the driving license of the offender in particular offences and send a report to the Registration and License Authority (RLA) of the same.
It doesn’t matters whether the driver is from Chandigarh or any other state, Chandigarh Traffic Police after issuing challan for any of four violations will write to the concerned state RLA to seize driving license for 3 months.
If a driver is found driving vehicle and violating the traffic rules and doesn’t owns a licence, then a challan will be imposed of Rs 1,500.
Meanwhile, maximum suspension is done under violations of over speeding.
