Chandigarh: Countdown has begun to the student body elections. Panjab University and the affiliated colleges have engulfed themselves in the poll fever.
The leaders are leaving no stone unturned to campaign. Door-to-door campaigning in the hostels and even in the classrooms has become a daily routine. From solving petty problems of students to ensuring good quality of food in hostels and reduced fees, promises are coming thick and fast.
ABVP leader Kanvar Rana, says, “Promotions are going on in the day also. But some students fear it as ragging so now major focus has shifted to hostel campaigning. Team is focusing on freshers in hostels where persuading them is easier.”
The election fever has also wrapped up all the colleges and the most active ones are GGDSD College, Sector 32; Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26; DAV College, Sector 10; Post-Graduate Government College, Sector 11 and Sector 46.
Despite all the restrictions, all the student parties are seen using printed posters and stickers on notebooks, cell phones, walls, poles and vehicles, which is a violation of the election code of conduct.
A new trend of wrist band with their party names is going on.
The party leaders along with their supporters have already started taking out rallies around the colleges, distributing their stickers and flying their party flags.
The party leaders keep denying but some students from SD College, DAV College, PGGC 11 and SGGS College have accepted that party leaders are promising them various freebies and movie tickets if they vote for them.
This time even the Students’ Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU) is a bit active on the PU campus which was missing action from past year.
Whereas the newly launched party, NSUISF, after announcing their girls wing has started luring the freshers with personal one to one speeches.
NSUISF President Rohit Rana says, “With 65% of girl students on campus, they cannot be ignored. This is the reason every party has placed their different groups for different departments. Our girls’ wing is also visiting freshers on campus and persuading them by telling our merits and activities done for student welfare.”
Campaigning has picked up a faster pace after the announcement of final date for elections.
