Chandigarh: It is tough time for 56-odd persons with 90 to 100 per cent disability fighting hard for the past eight years to get booths handed over to them under the reserved quota. Jaggananth (42), Vinod Kumar (25) and Hanuman Parshad are some of the handicapped persons with 100 per cent disability who came down to knock at the door of MP Kirron Kher to get their voice heard.
They have been running from pillar to post to get the allotment for the past eight years but in vain. Vinod Kumar, Vice President of the Disabled Association, said, “We have been fighting for the allotment of the booths specially reserved for handicapped persons in Sectors 38 and 41 for the past eight years. The UT Administration has been dilly dallying the allotment without any specific reason.”
The disabled persons also said that all the formalities had been completed of survey, scrutiny and verification of the beneficiaries, but still the administration was refraining from handing over the possession.
It must be mentioned here that the UT Administration had constructed 113 booths to be allotted to such beneficiaries, of which 30 have been allotted but 56 have been running from pillar to post to get the allotment.
Traders of Krishna Market, Sector 41, led by councillor Hardeep Singh, met Kher and requested for providing sheds in the market to give relief during the rains. Singh also took up the issue of allotment of booths to the handicap persons. Kher said that this would be taken up with the authorities concerned. Anganwadi workers met Kher and highlighted the problems related to their salary and working timings. Employees of the Deaf and Dumb Society met Kher and thanked her for taking up their issue of inclusion of deaf and dumb persons in the handicapped category.
A resident of Sector 37, Ritu Sood met Kher and highlighted the stray dogs problem faced by the residents. She asked her for a permanent solution to this problem. Kher said that this problem had already been taken up with the department concerned.
