PU is doing academic frauds: RTI activist
CHANDIGARH: RTI activist R K Singla has alleged that Panjab University is involved not only in manipulation, nepotism and favouritism but also in corruption and academic fraud. He has demanded an enquiry by the CBI to unearth this fraud along with other illegalities being committed in the university. On Saturday, at a press conference, he raised the matter of degrees issued by Chander Mohan Jha University (CMJU), Shillong, Meghalaya, which had been declared illegal, and withdrawn by the Visitor of the University (Governor of Meghalaya) video order dated April 30, 2013. The university went up to the Supreme Court which also affirmed on September 13, 2013 the illegalities of these degrees, giving relaxation to the affected students that they could represent to the Government of Meghalaya, directing the government to provide them an opportunity of hearing and consider their cases sympathetically. The Meghalaya Government heard them, and declared the degrees of all the 3,592 candidates, who represented to the government, as invalid. None of the candidates subsequently challenged this order anywhere, meaning thereby that the order of the Government of Meghalaya as per the Supreme Court directions had attained finality and all these degrees stood cancelled. Panjab University had also removed in July 2013 students who took admission on the basis of their qualifying examinations/degrees from CMJ University.
