Chandigarh: Ahead of the student council elections, wooing the voters is a routine affair, but this time it seems that the parties again have gone a bit vocal and daring too as one of the students organisation at a city college has recently organised a party for the freshers.
The Students’ Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU) wing of the GGDSD College, Sector 32, organised an unofficial freshers’ party at a lounge bar in Sector 26. The organisation had put up posters in the college and had also uploaded an invite on Facebook, carrying mobile numbers of the office-bearers. However the student party representatives stated that no outsider was allowed inside the venue but the students who attended it had taken along their friends from outside the college.
However, according to the SOPU office-bearers of the college wing they had only invited new students of their college and party leaders from Panjab University to the party. Also, the students were charged a nominal entry fee of Rs 400 to 500.
Ankit Sharma, a student who attended the party, said, “On taking admission to the college, we all look forward to the freshers’ party. We were told that we can come along with our friends from outside the college as well.”
According to the sources, various other students’ organisations of PU and its affiliated colleges are also planning similar parties and trips which is a method of wooing voters every year. Also the student organizations are using social media to reach out to students using Facebook and Twitter.DP
