Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal today handed over all the records of before partition to Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha Rana KP Singh.
In a simple but effective function organised by in the Speaker’s Office of Punjab Vidhan Sabha, a record of debates during the period from March 23, 1937 to March 3, 1947, of the Punjab assembly in the form of 43 manuscripts, the Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal handed over to the Speaker Rana KP Singh which will be kept in the Vidhan Sabha Library.Speaking on the occasion, Rana K.P. Singh said that before 1947, the assembly of common Punjab used to represent the people of both the countries and thus these debates have great significance at the historical level. He said that these records will be very beneficial for researchers who conduct research on various issues related to common Punjab. He said that by reading these debates, there would be good information about the situation before partition of India-Pakistan. While thanking the finance minister , KP Singh said that with the help of Manpreet Singh Badal has obtained this record and taken it to the Library of the Vidhan Sabha for which he is commended. He said that with this record, the Library of Punjab Vidhan Sabha has become richer.While giving more details about this record, the Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal said that after a lot of efforts, this record has been brought in the form of photocopies from Pakistan. This record also includes the debates of several important bills which will also get important information about the freedom movement- he said. He said that all this record is available in English as the whole process of the assembly was recorded in English at that time. Mr. Badal said that a copy of this record would also be given to Haryana Vidhan Sabha and National Archaeological department. Badal also appreciated the help received by the IAS officer RAvinder Kumar Kaushik.Among others Deputy Speaker Ajaib Singh Bhatti, MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Rakesh Pandey, Amrik Singh Dhillon, Nathu Ram, Darshan Lal, Surjit Singh Dhiman, Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal, Prof. Baljinder Kaur, Aman Arora, Baldev Singh, Amarjit Singh, Manjit Singh Bilaspur, Secretary of Vidhan Sabha Sashi Lakhnpal Mishra and the Speaker’s Personal Secretary Ramlok were also present on the occasion.
