As a protest against the prohibition for burning the paddy straw on the Chandigarh border ‘Bhartiya Kisan Union’ (Rajewal) marched for their demands. A large number of police personnel were deployed by Mohali and Chandigarh Administration and to deal with any kind of violence situation, the police had also arranged Riot-proof vehicles and armed forces. Police officials abolished the protest of farmers by giving assurances of meeting of Farmers, including President Balbir Singh Rajewal with Captain Amarinder Singh.Farmers warned that if their demands are not accepted, they can again set up a permanent protest at any time. Before that thousands of these farmers reached Gurdwara Amb Sahib from different districts of Punjab. Some farmers had reached the Gurdwara from last night. Addressing these farmers, Balbir Singh Rajewal urged the farmers to remain calm or restricted to do any illegal activity.Chandigarh Police stopped the farmers after which the farmers started protest there. On this moment Rajewal said that if Chandigarh Police stopped the farmers for going to the capital, then the farmers would stop supply of milk and vegetables at any time in Chandigarh. He said that it is very weird argument that straw burning in Punjab spreads pollution in Delhi while Delhi is already polluted.He said that as per the measures suggested for preservation of straw, the farmers would be charged more than Rs. 6000 per acre, which was not kept in mind while fixing the price of the crop. He said either the government should announce a bonus of Rs.300 per quintal on paddy in lieu of the expenditure incurred for preservation of paddy straw by September 30 and according to the orders given by the tribunal to the farmers, the machinery should be provided to them. Otherwise, the farmers will be forced to set fire to straw.Senior Vice President Nek Singh Khokh, General Secretary Onkar Singh Agol and Gulzar Singh Ghanour also addressed the farmers. Meanwhile, farmers sent a memorandum with the signatures of one and half lakh of farmers sent to the Chief Minister, which was received by SDM Dr. R. P. Singh.
