The generalised opinion in public about UT Traffic Police not performing duty religiously was proved wrong by head constable Harkewal Singh as he was found performing his duty barefooted despite heavy downpour in the city on Saturday. Singh said that his shoes got wet in rain while managing the traffic jam at Sectors 18-19-20-21 crossing signal. He removed his shoes and socks and was seen directing the traffic barefooted.
Singh said, “Duty is first. If rain has come down, then that doesn’t mean that I will not manage the traffic. I had to remove wet shoes to direct traffic and also had to help those got stuck at the water-logged the crossing.”
Singh was seen with lifted trousers up to his knees with bare feet standing on road to manage the traffic. Interestingly, he was the only cop seen during those hours at the crossing.
People passing by also gazed at the cop with smiles on their faces as of admiring the effort put in by the cop to perform his duty. Rashmi Sehgal, whose vehicle the cop helped during water-logging, said, “He is unlike UT Traffic Police. Rains failed to deter his zest to perform his duty, even bare-footed.”
