Panchkula: The Sarv Karamchari Sangh (SKS) on Tuesday held a massive protest in Panchkula against the state government’s anti-employee policies. However, the plan was to protest outside the state Assembly, but the police deployed on the Chandigarh-Panchkula barrier stopped the employees from entering Chandigarh.
The employees were stopped on the Panchkula-Chandigarh border near the Housing Board light point that further led to traffic chaos. A huge traffic jam was witnessed near the Housing Board light point and nearby areas. The traffic was diverted through different routes and commuters faced inconvenience. Hundreds of police officials were deployed at the spot to maintain the law and order situation in the district.
Dharambir Phogat, state president of the sangh, said around 20,000 employees marched towards the Assembly and participated in the demonstration. He alleged that services of part-time and contractual employees were being terminated, adding hast the government had backtracked on its promise to give salaries at par with Punjab. Subhash Lamba, general secretary, SKS, rued the government had raised the salary of daily wagers employed under Part I of the outsourcing policy, while ignoring 1.5 lakh employees appointed under Part II of the policy and contractual workers. He demanded regularisation of employees, same wages for same work, scrapping of the outsourcing policy and filling vacant posts. Members of the sangh criticised the opposition parties for failure to raise their demands in the Assembly.
Meanwhile, a meeting has been fixed with the Haryana Chief Minister on March 24 following which the sangh will put up their demands. Also former OSD to Haryana CM, Jawahar Yadav, visited Housing Board liight point to receive a memorandum from the employees. He assured the employees that following the meeting with the CM, their demands will surely be resolved at the earliest.
