Chandigarh: Be cautious while crossing the 46-47-48-49 light point as the light point has seen the maximum number of accidents in 2016 in Chandigarh.
According to official data of the Road and Accidents Analysis Cell of the Chandigarh Police, 25 accidents took place at the 46-47-48-49 light point in 2016 and among them four were fatal which led to the death of five persons, while around a dozen were left injured.
The data reveal that after the 46-47-48-49 light point, the most prone to accidents is the transport light point followed by the Kalagram light point.
In 2016, 18 accident took place at transport light point, while 16 accidents took place at the Kalagram light point.
A survey of the UT police has identified 15 accident prone areas in the city.
In 2016, 144 persons lost their lives in fatal accidents in Chandigarh as against 124 fatal and 292 non-fatal in 2015.
In June 2016, a 45-year-old woman occupant of a car was killed after her car was hit by another car near the roundabout of Sectors 46-47-48-49, while in October, a 20-year-old CA aspirant was killed after he was crushed by a tractor-trailer near the airport light point.
