Chandigarh: Although PUCSC elections are around the corner, security on Panjab University campus is still inadequate. Even though authorities have started to take necessary measures like complete ban on the entry of cars without PU stickers but shortage of security guards on campus is the major issue as always.
67 security guard posts still lying vacant
PU chief security officer Jatinder Grover says, “For managing entry gates properly they will have to adjust some security guards on campus. There is one guard for two adjacent buildings. But if there is protest on campus then we have to call guards from traffic management on the spot.”
PU security is also dependent on Chandigarh Police but they are only called only if situation goes out of control.
“As we are civil security so we cannot arrest anyone . North campus still has sufficient number of gaurds.”
But situation in south campus is worse as it is near to residential colony and need more security.
Jatinder Grover says, “The University authority is planning to outsource security for the south campus before the election. There are two or three agencies which we are talking to and if we are provided with the security staff then the security on campus will be appropriate.”
