Chandigarh:Members of the Student for Society ( SFS) on Tuesday organised a rally from StuC to the V-C’s office and submitted a memorandum there. Along with students, representatives of the PSU (Lalkar), ASA and SOI also participated in the rally.
The Central and Punjab governments should take the responsibility for the financial crisis of the university. The Modi government is pushing the agenda of commercialisation of education. The Vice Chancellor should call a Senate meeting immediately to revert the decision on fee hike, otherwise students would retaliate intensively, said SFS president Daman Preet.
Since the PU Senate meeting held on Sunday gave approval to the fee hike by 12.5 per cent for different courses in the teaching departments and regional centres of PU from the 2017-18 session, various student leaders have been protesting against the fee hike decision. The students termed the decision as a shameful act, affecting the future of many students who are studying and those who wish to take admission in the university.
Prior to the SFS, the National Students Union of India (NSUI) and the Students Organisation of India (SOI) on Monday had also submitted a memorandum to the office of the Vice Chancellor on the hike in the university fee
