Chandigarh: After the Akal Takht Jatehdar Giani Gurbachan Singh failed to get a positive response to his proposal to sort out the dispute between the two, now the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Tuesday announced to step in to broker peace between Damdami Taksal chief Harnam Singh Dhumma and Sikh preacher Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwala, who are in conflict for past some time.
“We have decided to mediate to resolve the differences between the two,” informed SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar after presiding over a meeting of the committee’s executive body in Amritsar. The SGPC president further revealed that he had authorised the executive to form a committee for resolving the differences between the Taksal head and Dhadrianwala, mentioning that it will be done in a day or so after contacting both sides. He hoped that the committee would be able to find the solution soon.
It is pertinent to mention that Dhadrianwala’s caravan was recently attacked in Ludhiana by some followers of Damdami Taksal, during which one preacher Bhupinder Dhakkiwala was shot dead. Sensing the situation, the SGPC executive also appealed to Dhumma and Dhadrianwala to maintain peace. The committee was found more worried for the Operation Bluetsar anniversary, falling on June 6.
While the SGPC chief mentioned that he had asked the committee officials to ensure the day passes off peacefully, he expected the high vigilance from government side. It is pertinent to mention that Dhadrianwala has already rejected the proposal of Akal Takht Jathedar on the grounds that Giani Gurbachan Singh had no moral right to remain on the post due to his role in the Dera Sacha Sauda case, after he withdrew the edict against the Dera head Gurmeet Ram Rahim which was issued in 2007.
In the incident of murderous attack, Dhadrianwala has demanded a probe from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), stating that he had no faith in the state police.
