Chandigarh:Passengers were at receiving end as the Chandigarh Shatabdi Express (12046) was delayed due to malfunctioning of advanced starter signal on Monday. The passengers with anxious expression were seen waiting for the train to depart. However the train departed 35 minutes late at 12:35 pm instead of scheduled departure of 12 noon.
The train traffic at Chandigarh railway station was halted for around 45 minutes as the Nangal Dam-Ambala passenger train was stopped abruptly at the outer section of the railway station due signal malfunction. The green signal suddenly turned red and showed the upward signal. A senior railway officer at Chandigarh railway station said, “The passenger train driver sent a message that the train had to be halted as the signal suddenly turned upward at Advanced Starter Signal. The technical staff was rushed to the spot and it was observed that due to some technical snag the signal malfunctioned. Staff took around 20 minutes to repair the snag. The Shatabdi Express train was delayed for about 35 minutes due to the snag.” According to the railway rules, unless a train crosses the distance of 12 kilo meters, the train to follow in not allowed to depart from the station. The distance between two trains must be maintained upto 12 kilometres, said an officer.
The passengers travelling in Shatabdi Express were not made aware of the delay because of which most of them were seen anxiously waiting outside the coaches looking towards the engine side of the train. Puneet Madan, and executive from Delhi said, “None of the railway officials is updating that why the train is not proceeding. I have to catch a connecting flight to Chennai from Delhi and if train gets late, I may miss the flight.”
However the train docked at the Delhi railway station eight minutes in advance despite of departing 35 minutes late from Chandigarh.
