Chandigarh: It’s been four months when the local MP Kirron Kher along with other senior officials of UT inaugurated the Shopping Complex at Model jail Burail in Sector-51, but the jail authorities have failed to start up the shopping complex which still remains unopened
The Shopping Complex at Model jail Burail, which involved the art and creativity of the inmates at Burail Jail will was inaugurated by local Member of Parliament Kirron Kher in the presence of Adviser to the Administrator, Chandigarh Parimal Rai and Home Secretary, Anurag Agarwal on July 31 this year but as of now, the shopping complex has not been able to initiate the dealings.
The shopping complex was to sell furniture and bakery items prepared by them in the jail inmates to public.
According to sources, the shopping complex had been constructed in amount of lakhs of Rupees in order to build up market of products made by jail inmates.
Sources from jail said that the inmates had been given vocational course training of one month. The courses included making of bakery items, furniture, candles and more.
After the training, the inmates were supposed to make products for sale at the shopping complex but the shopping being unopened for public, the training of the inmates is going futile.
As per plan of the jail authorities, after the payment collected from sale of the products made by the inmates, the amount will be used for betterment and policies for the jail.
Meanwhile, Amandeep, DSP Burail Jail said that the machinery for preparing bakery and candles has been set up at the jail premises and very soon will be open for sale to public at the shopping complex.
