Chandigarh: St John’s Old Boys Association (SJOBA) is organising the 30 SJOBA Naxen Sub-Himalayan Open Rally-2017 from March 10 to 13. For the first time flagging off for the rally is 90 kms beyond Chandigarh on day two from Kunipul, near Kunihar.
For the first time various classes have been introduced in various categories. Where TSD has professional, amateur and first time classes to participate in, Extreme form is classified into Moto (Motor Cycles), Jeeps and Cars classes. These all classes are further classified in different categories based upon their CC’s. Above all this, there are overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in all these broad classes. And for women, there is Coup De` Dames, special prize in all broad categories. Therefore, there are 31 different classes/awards this time. A whopping prize money of approximately Rs 5 lakh.
Day 1 – Sector 34 Ground, Chandigarh – starting from scrutiny of papers and the vehicles in Chandigarh, followed by SSS and then Day 2 will see the flag off of competitive stage – Extreme and TSD rally, covering approximately 220 kms in the picturesque locales of Himachal Pradesh.
Second day, night stay is at Koti Resorts. Day 3, rallyists again cover another approximately 220 kms of new tracks with lunch at Hotel Palace Chail. Finally the Rally culminates into the prize distribution/dinner ceremony in the evening at Chandigarh after declaration of winners in St John’s High School, Sector 26 here in the evening.
SJOBA, the Rally Masters work day and night to accomplish this huge event successfully. Over 200 members are working as marshals and various other categories to manage and control the Rally, with specialized teams covering the event in various forms.
SJOBA announced that this time the second largest producer of tyres in the World – Nexen Tire Corporation, Korea is their title sponsor and the event is powered by Indian Oil XtraPremium, supported by Chandigarh Citi Center (CCC), MnB by Meena Bazaar, Koti Resorts, Aura Builders & Promoters, Fortis Mohali.
The Rally is designed to offer Motor Sports fun and adventure for just everyone professionals, amateurs including first time participants. The Rally promises complete fun and adventure for all and those who want to live extreme can go for extreme format and those who want the feel of Rally, fun and adventure without going into extreme form can opt for the TSD format. So every person, every taste and every motor vehicle can find a category for itself.This event is the oldest and commanding Motor Sport Event of North India, being organized by SJOBA for over 30 years with great success featuring top rally drivers and riders in India. The main participants are from Delhi NCR, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh & Himachal.
The rally is open to general public having valid driving licence.
The rally, affiliated with the FMSCI, is a regular event on the official FMSCI calendar which is the premier body for motor sports in India. All rules, regulations and safety standards are at par with national events such as Raid de Himalaya and the popular Desert Storm events.
