Chandigarh: Against the decision of syndicate members to hike the examination fee of various courses, members of the SOI unit of Panjab University protested at VC’s office at the university on Monday.
The students said the Panjab University’s decision to increase the examination fee for the new session was unjustified and constituted commercialisation of education.
The students had submitted memorandum regarding the same on Friday. They said, “We had submitted the memorandum but authorities are not paying any heed towards it so we are forced to sharpen our protest.”
The members have gone on Chain hunger protest against the decision. Team of five members is sitting on hunger strike including Gagandeep and Harmandeep from UILS and Rajat, Dewak and Rajinder from Department of Laws.
SOI president Vicky Middukhera said, “This steep hike is shocking and hiking the fees every time varsity faces financial crisis is not justified. This is just pressure on students’ shoulders. The authorities should look out or other ways to go about this. We will be intensifying our protests with everyday passing.”
