Chandigarh:Acknowledging the demand of Panjab University Student Council , Vice Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar on Thursday announced to hold the special meeting of Senate on May 7 over the issue of fee hike.
V-C shared that the senate will discuss the issue of additional grant pursuant to submission or reply of University filed in Punjab and Haryana High Court and Supreme Court of India. All the Senate Members have been intimated of this meeting and the relevant documents of Court proceedings have been disseminated to them.
V-C also shared that the Double Bench of Punjab and Haryana High Court has taken cognizance of the fact that the SLP against the order, passed by it, has been stayed to the extent of payment of balance amount from an amount of Rs 30.5 Crore, which is to be paid.
In other words, payment of Rs 30.5 crore was to be made to Panjab University and payment of Rs 21.73 crores has been made. The balance payment of Rs 8.77 crores, which was to be made has been stayed. The SLP is now listed for hearing on April 24.
Grover further stated that they have also received a communication from MHRD wherein the ministry has directed UGC to urgently conduct a meeting with him, so that expenditure and revenue plan submitted by Panjab University is discussed.
The Ministry has sought report form UGC after conducting the meeting latest by April 27.
The Core Committee of Senators, constituted to meet Chief Minister of Punjab and HRD Minister, will meet them on April 27.
