Panchkula: With the city’s gaushalas packed to capacity, hundreds of bovine animals have made the roads their home, claiming lives of motorists every now and then. Also the Municipal Corporation, Panchkula, is yet to process its plan which is in the pipeline of setting up new gaushalas in the region. Hundreds of cows and bulls have not only made the roads their home but also enjoy right of way, disrupting a free flow of traffic and causing accidents across the city.
The situation is particularly grave in urban pockets where stray cattle have become a threat to the safety of commuters, leading to protests at some places. According to officials of the civic body, there are more than a thousand stray cattle in the city and there is the need to handle the situation which is becoming worst day by day.
However, the civic body has proposed gaushalas (cow shelter) in the last House meeting held in 2016 as the current gaushalas in the city have been totally occupied and the same was also passed at that time but has been lingering on further.
