Chandigarh: With wheel chairs and stretchers lying around, ailing patients with tubes inserted in their bodies, tired relatives sitting around the patients, and children’s studying in the same building, is the real side of Government Model High School which is being run from PGI’s Rotary sarai building. Saurabh Joshi, councillor from ward number two, here on Monday visited the school and met with children and parents who shared that their children keep getting infected with some disease or the other because of patients living in the sarai.
“The condition in which the kids are studying shows that how Right to Education, is being flouted blatantly by Chandigarh and PGI Administration as students are currently forced to study in premises which houses patients suffering from contagious diseases like TB. These children have to choose between exposing themselves to this unhealthy environment or no education,” said,” Saurabh Joshi.
“Many times we have urged Chandigarh administration and PGI authorities for revamping the dilapidated school in PGI campus. Children should be given their right to basic education and right to a healthy and safe learning environment but both PGI and UT administration have turned a blind eye,” added Joshi. “I will take this issue up with UT administration. Either school needs to be moved to a different building or these children need to be moved to a school in a different sector”.
