Some of the toilets at public places found in a bad shape and unhygienic in Panchkula
Panchkula: Authorities in Panchkula have failed to ensure clean and safe public toilets in the city. Toilets located at various spots across the city such as in city markets, at railway station and bus stand are in deplorable conditions. Most of them were found filthy, stinking and dysfunctional. Irony is that most of the washrooms cannot be used due to lack of cleanliness, water and electricity. It seems that the authorities are hardly concerned about Swachh Bharat Mission drive.
During a reality check, it was found that a public toilet in Sector 8, Panchkula, besides Hotel Peninsula, is in a dilapidated state and has been non-functional from past many years. It is also to be noted that despite repeated representations, work related to the same is still not taken up by the authorities.
Often pitched as Paris of Haryana, it’s a stark contrast between the reality and ugly part that dents the image of the city. All the beautification and modern infrastructure go for a toss as public is deprived of basic necessities. Most of the public toilets are in unhygienic condition, which are supposed to be maintained properly. The toilets have no proper water supply and are badly maintained as there is no monitoring provision laid down by the authorities.
Municipal Councillor of ward number 9 C B Goel said, ‘’HUDA (Haryana Urban Development Authority) should manage the toilets situated in the city markets as they come under their control. Many of the toilets are not functional due to negligence of the authorities. They are being set up but are not provided with proper services.’’
