Chandigarh: It has been over a month that two JBT ETT pass teachers from Punjab climbed atop 80 feet high mobile tower in a high-security zone at Punjab Bhawan, Sector 3. UT police on Tuesday had submitted an affidavit in the court following the matter stating that protesters have refused to get themselves medically examined.
In an affidavit submitted by Station House Officer, Sector 3 Punam Dilawari, it has been mentioned that the protesters who are on the telephone tower have refused to come down or get themselves medically examined.
Meanwhile, according to sources it has been learnt that Director Public Instructions, Punjab, Inderjeet Singh visited the spot to have a word with the teachers.
It was also learnt that the teachers who are atop of the tower refused to talk following which Kamal Thakur, Chair Committee member of the teachers ‘association had a word with DPI Punjab.
‘’Government is not at all worried about the teachers and are not paying attention to our demands. It’s been more than a month, and none of the official from the government has come here to listen to our demands. Following the meeting with DPI, we have again told them the demands following vacant posts and de-reservation,’’ said Thakur.
Deepak Kumar (35) from Fazilka and Rakesh Kumar (29) of Gurdaspur, members of the Elementary Teacher Training (ETT), Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) Pass Unemployed Teachers’ Union of Punjab; climbed the tower on the midnight of November 3.
‘’Both of them refused to get their medical done and are demanding their motives to be fulfilled. They have been kept in a tight security and every other arrangements has also been made including ambulance and fire brigade vehicle’’, said Punam Dilawari, SHO, Sector 3.
The two men have a banner, in Punjabi which reads that government should fill vacancies in the reserved categories.
As such, the union wants recruitment of all ETT holders who have cleared the eligibility test between 2011 and 2015, and claims that CM Badal had promised jobs by October 25.
