Chandigarh:Nearly a kilometre-long traffic snarl gave commuters a tough time on Tuesday afternoon on Madhya Marg as they remained stuck in serpentine queues for over an hour. Traffic snarls were witnessed with no cops around to regulate vebhicles.
Madhya Marg from the Home Science College light point to Press Chowk light point was full of rows of vehicles.
The traffic snarl remained for around an hour. However, no cop from the traffic police was around to regulate the traffic.
Among the roads on which traffic came to a standstill and then moved at a snail’s pace were from Matka Chowk to the Press Chowk light point and Matka Chowk towards the UT Secretariat.
According to sources, the people coming from the southern sectors were also trapped in a major traffic jam. Many drivers who tried to find a way out only made the traffic jam worse, while some others tried to direct the traffic.
Anuj Bhalla, a resident of Sector 27, said, “I was crossing from this route towards Mani Majra but didn’t knew I had to move my vehicle at a snail’s pace.”
Meanwhile, the DSP, Traffic East, said that no call about the traffic jam was reported on Tuesday afternoon on the stretch from Home Science College light point to Sector 8 Press Chowk light point.
It could be the reason that some of the vehicles may have turned nonfunctioning in between following which a minor traffic snarl could have occurred. However, no particular call was received of traffic jam on Tuesday afternoon in this area, added the DSP, Traffic.
