Chandigarh: Aiming to provide hassle free services to pay challans after demonization, Chandigarh Police will soon set up debit and credit card swipe machines to pay the fine at Sector 29, Traffic Police headquarter.
The concept of Chandigarh Police to introduce e-payment system for traffic violatiors will enable offenders to pay fine with plastic money at the spot.
Eish Singhal, SP Traffic and Security said “A proposal has been sent to the administration to buy new credit and debit card swipe machines. The machines will be available at the counter of challaning branch which will help depositing fine in a hassle free manner and will also turn the functioning cashless”.
According to police sources, another project of Chandigarh Traffic Police under the e-payment system is also in pipeline in which traffic cops will hand out printed challans on the spot to offenders, instead of traditional pen and paper challans and no vehicle of the traffic violator will be impounded. The e-payment system will enable the traffic offenders to pay their fines simply by swiping their debit or credit cards while currently for paying such fines, violators have to go to the traffic police line at Sector-29 in person.
The official said that for outstation vehicles, card swiping machines will be made available to traffic cops and the violators bearing outstation vehicles can just make payment through plastic money on the spot.
Presently the UT traffic police issue an average of 1,000 challans every day to the violators. New system will enable to improve transparency in the Police Department and also the violators will not have to wait in long queues to pay penalty.
