The tricity is geared up for the celebrations of 70th Independence Day in different parts. The Police teams of Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali have geared up for the I Day, security arrangements are expected to be up to mark.
In Chandigarh, a sea of Khaki will be deployed with around 6500 cops to be deployed around the city corner while 650 cops will be deployed only at the Parade ground Sector 17 where the main event of I Day is scheduled.
Eish Singhal, SSP Traffic and Security, Chandigarh Police said, “The teams have been divided into 7 zones which will be headed by the DSP’s while other police officials will be along on the duty.”
Cops have been deployed around the city in uniform and in civil clothes to keep vigil on the mischievous elements. While bomb disposal squad with quick reaction commando teams have also been deployed in the city to effectively counter any terrorist attack. Anti-sabotage check teams equipped with the state of art equipment’s would also be checking the city, told the official. On view of threats, Security has also been tightened in the Mohali.
Senior Superintendent of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said, “Special checking drives are carrying out at various places in the city especially in PG’s and “Nakas” on Chandigarh Mohali Border. Special 10 “Nakas” are in whole Mohali city along with Chandigarh Mohali border. 20 PCR Parties are on duty Round the Clock. Agencies have eyes on Crowded Public Places like bus stand, railway station, markets.”
There is a heavy security deployment in Mohali which contains one SWAT team, three “Ghatak Daste” (1st time deployed in Mohali), 1 company of Paramilitary Force, 3 teams of Anti Riot Party (ARP) , 4 Bullet proof Nakas are inside stadium, 4 Chasing Parties,1 Sniper Duty of Sharp Shooters, 7 SP Rank Officers, 8 DSP’s, 30 Inspectors, 80 ASI/SI, 650 Constables /Policeman, 30 Lady Police. In spite of these deployments, the stadium is divided in 12 parts, each part will be supervised by gazetted officers.
Bhullar said the security has been beefed up in the district and all the station house officers (SHO) have been directed to keep a watch on the anti-social Elements.
A state level function of Independence Day will be held at Mohali. Function will be held at Government collage phase-6 Mohali. Chief Minister Punjab Parkash Singh Badal will hoist the Flag at 9 AM.
Meanwhile, the Panchkula Police have also geared up for the preparations of the I Day. The Police force will be deployed at the borders points and around the city.
A multi-layered security cover has been deployed in the district ahead of Independence Day, with over thousands of security personnel keeping vigil across the city. Haryana Labour and Employment Minister Nayab Singh Saini, will unfurl the National Flag at Parade Ground, Sector 5, at 9 am. Meanwhile before the parade ceremony, the state minister will pay homage to the martyrs at Sector 12 Martyrs Memorial. Following the unfurling of the national flag, the chief guest will inspect the parade
