Chandigarh: ‘Doctor is not available for next two days, has gone to another dispensary,’ but when the patient reaches another one, he gets the response, ‘Ma’am is busy in a meeting, please come tomorrow.’ Such are the replies that are often given to the residents of Dhanas colony and village when they go to both the civil dispensaries located there.
When the Daily Post correspondent visited both the dispensaries, the helplessness of the patients visiting both the dispensaries was evident. When the correspondent tried to ask the dispensary staff who in the absence of doctor, attends the patients, the staff gave curt reply telling, ‘’Go to the other dispensary. Don’t waste our time. Can’t you see we are busy ?”.
Similar treatment was given to Sewak Ram, who for the past five days had been trying to meet the doctor but everytime he was told that the doctor was not available .
With disappointment in his eyes, Sewak Ram moved to the dispensary located in the colony. On reaching the dispensary, the attendant told him, ‘’Ma’am is busy, can’t you see? Come tomorrow.’’ Despite repeated requests, he was turned away.
However, when the correspondent tried to meet the doctor, the attendant shouted, ‘’Can’t you see she is busy? While the doctor was seen sitting with a group of women involved in doing chit-chat.
Non-availability of the doctor, and the other one having a busy schedule, is a regular feature of these two dispensaries at Dhanas. Leaving the residents in the lurch, the government money is going down the drain, and this type health service is a slap on the system that wastes public money like termite.
Meanwhile, despite repeated attempts, Director Health Services Dr Vanita Gupta could not be contacted for comments.
