Chandigarh: There seem no end to snatching incidents in city, as two miscreants went on a snatching spree and snatched away gold chains from two women at different places on Friday.
The snatchings were reported in just half an hour at separate locations. The first incident was reported at 1 pm and the second snatching was reported at 1.30 pm. According to police, in the first case, a woman resident of Sector 46 became the victim of snatchers.
Police sources said that the incident took place at around 1 pm when the victim was bringing her child back from school and as when she reached near Sector 46, two miscreants on motorcycle came from the rear and snatched her gold chain and escaped away. The Police was called at the spot, however till the Police team reached the woman had already left from there.
In the second incident, a Sector 40 resident turned the victim. The victim, Parmeshwari Devi has stated that the incident took place at around 1.30 pm when the victim was coming from the local market heading towards her residence. As she reached near Sector 41, two miscreants on motorcycle, one of whom were not wearing helmet came down from motorcycle and snatched the woman’s gold chain and then the duo escape from the spot on their motorcycle which was parked nearby. Following this, the victim informed the police about the incident.
The victim had failed to note down the registration number of the motorcycles and police was scrutinising the CCTV footages of various light-point junctions to gather clues about the accused. The police have registered cases against unknown persons under various sections of Indian Penal code (IPC) including 379 (punishment for theft) and 356 (assault or criminal force in attempt to commit theft of property carried by a person) at respective police stations in Chandigarh.
