Chandigarh: Over a week after Markfed Managing director recommended registration of a criminal case against its four employees for committing embezzlement worth Rs 1.25 crore, the Hoshiarpur police finally booked two accused employees of the department.
A case under Sections 409, 420, 465, 468 and 471 of the IPC has been registered against Rahul Chaudhary, a branch head and Sumit Saini, a salesman, posted at Mukerian based office of the Markfed.
Two other accused of committing embezzlement in Tanda based office of the Markfed are still at large.
The accused are employees of the Markfed and had allegedly diverted subsidized cattle feed supply for the cooperative societies from their godowns. The accused had generated fake bills against the accounts of the societies (Cooperative Marketing Society, Tanda and Dugri Rajputaan Cooperative Society, Mukerian).
Getting information the Markfed constituted a team of its officials to verify the facts. The team conducted a physical verification of the stocks of both the societies and found 12,635 bags of cattle feed missing from the Mukerian branch office in the stock meant for October 2016. Of this, 9,500 bags were shown supplied to Dugri Rajputaan Cooperative Society, against fake bills, a senior official of the Markfed disclosed.
Similarly, cattle feed worth Rs 31.39 lakh was pilfered from Markfed’s godown after generating fake bills against Cooperative Marketing Society, Tanda.
In all, 5,140 bags of cattle feed worth Rs 40 lakh were found missing from here.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Mukerian Bhupinder Singh claimed that the case has been registered and a hunt to nab the accused is on.
A senior police official claimed that the two accused employees of Markfed Tanda office, will be booked and arrested soon.
