Chandigarh :Heinous crime incidents involving usage of weapon and that too ‘Country Made Pistols or Desi Katta’ seems going seems going rampant in Chandigarh as many as 12 unlicensed weapons mostly reported as ‘Country Made Pistols or Desi Katta’ were mostly recovered by the UT police in 2016.
The Chandigarh Police have registered 18 cases of Arms act in 2016 and in more than half a dozen cases, the accused used 12 country made weapons.
According to an official data of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the Chandigarh Police registered 11 cases under Arms Act in 2015 and a total 12 weapons have been seized under the act. A total 12 unlicensed weapons and 51 ammunitions have also been seized by the Chandigarh Police in the year 2015.
Among the weapons seized by the UT police in 2015, 6 were found unlicensed or were country made pistols while 6 were other Arms. Meanwhile, the Police team also seized 51 ammunitions which were bombs or rockets, and especially shot, shrapnel, bullets, or shells fired by guns.
Police sources, the country made pistols which are reportedly being manufactured at UP are further being supplied to the neighbouring states in cheaper rates.
In the recent cases of firing in city, Country Made Pistols have been reportedly used by most of the accused persons. One of the accused in firing incident in city even disclosed during interrogation that he bought the weapon from a person at UP in a very cheap price at about Rs 30,000.
In few of the cases where the accused have been arrested, but the cops are still searching clues as from where the accused bought the weapon (country made pistols).
In a recent firing incident in City, on night of February 22, three assailants opened firing on a financer based in Burail. Police investigation revealed that the accused used country made pistol (desi katta) for attacking victim Karan Singh.
Police have learnt that the assailants bought the country made weapon from a dealer in Sonipat who might have further links in Uttar Pradesh.
Deepak Yadav, DSP South said “During the course interrogations of the several accused persons, it has been found that they bought the country made pistols used in the crime scene from UP.
Acting on this, Chandigarh police have sends a communique to the concerned police officials at UP so that the supply of such weapons can be banned and the accused can be nabbed, added the DSP.
