UT cop held by P’kula Police for involvement in Dera violence. In yet another breakthrough in the Dera violence case, Panchkula Police on Monday arrested a head constable with Chandigarh Police for alleged involvement in the matter. Confirming the same, Panchkula Police Commissioner A S Chawla said that head constable Lal Chand was arrested by the police from Chandigarh on Monday evening. “For an alleged involvement in the Dera violence case, we have arrested one head constable of Chandigarh Police. We will produce him before the court on Tuesday to obtain his police remand for further probe,” said Chawla. He also said that a senior police official linked with the Chandigarh intelligence had provided them with details of the head constable. “A SP-rank officer has provided us details on the basis of intelligence about Lal Chand. We have received a written application regarding the same. On the basis of it as well as video evidence which we had of the August 25 violence; we arrested Singh,” added Chawla. Police said that during the preliminary investigation in the matter, it has been come to the fore that Lal Chand’s role is doubtful as he was said to be involved with Dera group and worked as an informer.Chawla further said that a video capture of the August 25 violence in Panchkula clearly shows Lal Chand’s presence at the spot, even around the district courts complex. “The video grab of the August 25 violence in Panchkula shows his presence in Panchkula; he can be clearly seen in the footage. We have initiated a probe to come to a conclusion that he is also among the group of persons who were there to flee Dera chief from Panchkula after his conviction,” he said.
