UT Administration is poised to achieve a target of making 2000 houses solar powered within this fiscal year. The target has been set under “Green Chandigarh-Solar Chandigarh” concept said Home Secretary Anurag Aggarwal.Aggarwal said this while addressing representatives of various Residents Welfare Associations (RWA’s) on occasion of ‘Akshay Urja Divas’ organised by Chandigarh Renewal Energy, Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST).Aggarwal said, “We have set a target of 2000 private houses all above one Kanal to be Solar Powered by the end of year. The actual target is to produce 400 Megawatt of power from roof top Solar panels set up across the city which we plan to achieve by 2022.
UT is providing power buy back opportunity at almost double the rates for residents opting to put up roof topSolar Power generation plants on their houses. People can get good business out of it.”Aggarwal added that UT till date has achieved 10 Mw power generation target out of which 7.7 Mw is being generated from Solar plants fitted over government buildings.UT has also uploaded services on website solarchd.com for general public for hassle free services. People can also view rates and names of 45 vendors with lowest rates quoted for installation of Solar plants, said Aggarwal.RWA’s have been asked to spread awareness amongst the residents for adopting roof top Solar power generation plants.One can earn up to 10KW Solar Plant capacity @ Rs 9.18 per unit of solar electricity produced. He also explained in detail about the procedure involved, said Santosh Kumar, Director (Science and Tech) an CEO (CREST).
