Chandigarh: The e-rickshaw policy is likely to come into force by November 15 onwards. UT Administration had recently formulated the policy for the governance of e-rickshaws plying on the city roads.
Additional Secretary State Transport Authority (STA), Rajiv Tiwari said, “The e-rickshaw policy is all set to come into force from November 15 onwards. UT has already formulated the policy governing the e-rickshaws plying on the city roads. Under this policy, the e-rickshaws are to be registered with STA.”
The e-rickshaws will only be allowed to ply on the inner roads of sectors like V-4 and V-5 roads or shall be allowed only to cross over the V-3 roads to reach other Sector.
At present all such e-rickshaws have been plying on V-3 roads especially opposite Sukhna Lake connecting Rock Garden and Rose Garden. With the enforcement of the policy, such rickshaws will be restricted to ply on V-3 roads dividing the two Sectors whereas they will be allowed to ply on inner roads of sectors.
As per the policy, the e-rickshaws are not allowed to ply on V-1, V-2 and V-3 roads. They can only ply on inner Sector roads like V-4, V-5, V-6 and V-7 roads. All such rickshaws will be registered as transport vehicles under contract carriage permits to be renewed annually.
