Chandigarh: Proclaimed offender Sandeep alias Sunny, an escapee from Amabla police custody, has been booked by Chandigarh Police for allegedly threatening and extorting money from a city-based jeweller.
According to the police, the accused Sunny is also reported to be involved in recent liquor vend robbery at Manimajra, where miscreants robbed of cash Rs 35,000 on gun point from the liquor vend.
Sources in the police said that the accused Sunny has been sending threatening messages to Shiv Kumar, owner of Shiva jewellers at Dadumajra and asking for money.
As per the complainant lodged with the police, Shiv Kumar said that the accused had been troubling him for extortion and have also recently tried to attack him. Following this, the complainant informed the police.
Shadi Lal, SHO Police Station Sarangpur said “We have registered a case of extortion and threatening against the accused Sandeep after recording the statements of complainant Shiv Kumar. The investigation is being carried out”, added the SHO.
Sandeep and his accomplice Honey, were arrested when they reached at Dadumajra to receive extortion money from a city-based jeweller. Honey is the same person who had helped Sandeep to escape from district court.
He was arrested by the Crime branch of UT police, after he tried to escape on his two-wheeler along with his accomplice, but the police party chased them for about 300 metres and during the chase, his motorcycle skidded and they received minor injuries. The sources said that the accused Sandeep was taken into custody of Amabla Police. Sandeep alias Sunny however he managed to escape from the custody with the help of his accomplices at Ambala while he was being taken to a court in Ambala.
The accused Sandeep, a resident of Sector 38, was arrested by the Chandigarh Police in May 2015, after he managed to escape from the Mohali police custody.
According to reports, on October 6, Sandeep Kumar slipped out from the custody of a head constable of Mohali Police during his production in the District Court at Sector 43 with the help of his accomplice, Honey who was already waiting in a car outside the court.
After his escape from the court he was found indulged in three criminal activities in the city.
