The next time you see two ‘Muscle Men’ in uniform of Chandigarh Police, don’t think they are here for a shooting of a bollywood movie as they are the ‘fittest cops’ of Chandigarh Police who have taken fitness to the next level.
Since fitness is considered to be the key characteristic for policing, the two Inspectors of Chandigarh Police, Inspector Harinder Sekhon, Incharge Cyber Crime Investigation Cell and Baldev Kumar, Station House Officer of Mauli Jagran Police Station have been sweating and pushing beyond limits in gyms to get the perfection in achieving the exceptional physique.
Daily Post met the two Inspectors and had a chat on what inspired them to be the ‘finest and fittest cops’. Inspector Harinder Sekhon – “Fitness should not be choice, it should be mandatory.” he said, ‘’I was always into fitness and was an athlete since my college days.
At that time, a DIG of Punjab Police Harinder Chahal was my neighbour, since he was very tall and handsome cop, I got inspired from him and then I also decided to move into police.“I joined Chandigarh Police in 1997 as Assistant Sub Inspector and then after I returned from my training in 1998, my interest into fitness turned into a passion for body building. I started hitting Gym since then and then I competed for Mr Chandigarh in 2002 and also clinched the title. Then I remained Mr Chandigarh for four consecutive years. The titles gave me more motivation and took me further to be fit and fine always. “Being a cop, I need to be fit and that’s what my profession requires. Though it is difficult to manage going to gym everyday with full days working hours but my passion makes me stick to my commitment”.Asked about his favourite actor to whom he thinks suits in a cop’s role, Sekhon describes Hollywood actor Daniel Craig as the best in police roles. The cop is now preparing himself for Mr Olympiad in 2016.
“Joh fit hai wo hit hai” Inspector Baldev Kumar
He stated, ‘’I was an athlete and clinched the best athlete award for consecutive three years and then I also clinched a medal in Kick Boxing in a national tournament. Though I had interest to join Army but still I went for the police test and I cleared it in the first attempt.
‘’I joined Chandigarh Police as Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) in 1997 and then after I returned from my training in 1998, my interest being fitness took me towards the passion for body building. I never competed for any body building championship but had made up in my mind to get the best physique. It was from 2000 when I initiated on my physique and transforming it into an achievement of perfection.
‘’Being fit has always rewarded me in giving my best shot to my profession. One of the instances is recent, as while I was Incharge of Burail Police Post, we apprehended the habitual burglar Monty Shah after a long chase. It would have been difficult to nab the accused if I wasn’t fit.’’
Diet chart and daily schedule
Detailing his daily schedule, the inspector says he wakes up at 5 am and then goes to gym at 6 am. He then returns and joins his office at 9 am and returns and sleep around 12 midnight.
Briefing about his diet, he eats seven meals a day including two breakfasts including oats, papaya, black coffee, in the lunch he eats chicken breast with rice and chappatis, in the evening he has snacks including black coffee and fruits, in dinner he eats fish and rice maximum by 9 pm, and no meals after 9.30 pm. Eats salads with every meal. Meanwhile, advising people for being fit, he says avoid junk and eat simple food with some physical activity.
