UT Secretariat building in Sector 9 is in sheer neglect. The building is facing wrath of continuous water dropping from Air conditioners. As result Algae, Fungus has developed at walls and give a shabby look.The dampness is also weakening structure thus giving it a slow death as structure has also started to crumble from many places. The dampness at walls causes inconvenience to visitors visiting secretariat.
There are around five floors in UT Secretariat with more than half of the rooms on each floor fitted with air conditioners which continuously dripping water.According to building experts, the regular dripping of water from concrete building damages upper layer and also develops crack.
City based Architect, Surinder Bahga said, “The regular dripping of water on any type of building can cause major damage to the building. The regular water flow forms algae or fungus on the surface of building and weakens upper crust of the building. This leads to scalping of surface hence causing permanent damaging to building.”
However, UT engineering department terms it as temporary affect which does not cause major damage to the building. Superintending Engineer with UT engineering department said, “It will not cause much damage to the building as it is of RCC. But still we will make arrangements of drain pipes to be fitted at the outlet of the AC’s so that the water may flow down without damaging the structure.”
