Chandigarh Disaster Management Plan will be re-written as per the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) guidelines as an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Chandigarh Administration and Haryana Institute of Public Administration (HIPA), a premier Haryana Government institute last week.
The plan will be based on five points—mitigation of risk, preparedness, response, rehabilitation and reconstruction. Sources in the Administration stated that the agreement was signed by the Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh and HIPA to strengthen disaster management in Chandigarh. Aims at enhance skills, knowledge and attitudinal changes amongst civil servants also sharing knowledge and experience during pre and post emergencies.
Sources in the Administration stated that for this purpose budgetary allocation of over Rs 12 lakh has been sanctioned for up-gradation of disaster management plan in Chandigarh.
Both Chandigarh Administration and HIPA have agreed to share principles and objectives to inculcate the culture of disaster resilient in UT, Chandigarh. HIPA will assist the Administration in capacity building through research and training.
Besides, re-write of Chandigarh Disaster Management both have identified areas of collaboration. Areas of collaboration included preparation of GPS-based disaster management resource inventory, mainstreaming disaster risk reduction in development planning, conducting disaster reduction are few among others.
