The recently concluded Union Territory Tennis Open saw a new champion who ended the dominance of Aarushi Kakkar on court. Just sixteen, Himanshika has given high hopes to tennis enthusiasts in city.
“I started playing tennis six years ago and at that time it was just for fun” said current UT champion. Before that she was a football player. “I was selected for national event twice but after that I found tennis more promising and hence, I opted for tennis.On leaving the sports she say that since football is a team game sometime your selection is not in your hand but in tennis all depends on your performance.
The tom boy girl wants to be a psychologist other than tennis player. She is interested in cycling and music and spares little time to other things which normal girls like. Telling about to manage studies and tennis she says, “Sometimes it becomes very difficult. During the time of exams, I have to give up tennis for two months. After that returning to your form is very tough. You have to toil in order to live up to your and peers expectations.”
“I don’t have a favourite player. I think we should be fan of ourselves than being of others” she said. But she would like to see herself competing against Serena Williams who according to her is one of the most dominant players in Tennis.
She has planned her short term and long term goals very carefully. Even in this young age Himanshika is very skeptical and knows that if she wants a career in tennis than she has to achieve big at young age.
“I have two years to make a name in tennis if not possible than I will go to a foreign university to study Psychology. But yes, I want to represent the country at international level”. Talking about her family she urged that they have been very supportive. She considers her mother to be her greatest supporter and strength. My mother has left her business for my career.
