Chandigarh: With festive season on its peak and VIP visits turning a frequent affair, the UT cops had to face touch time due to intermittent traffic jams in city on Monday.
Since the day begun, the visit of Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh and Union Cabinet Minister for Women & Child Development, Maneka Gandhi, kept the cops on toes.
The cops were busy making adequate arrangements for the visit of the VIP’s. The Home Minister and the Cabinet Minister had arrived to attend a conference at a hotel in City.
The VIP’s landed at airport at around 9.30 am. Though the Police team ensured adequate arrangements on the route of the VIP’s and making least botheration for the city residents, still traffic chaos prevails on routes from where the cavalcade of VIP’s crossed.
The Police were also busy conducting dry runs for visit of PM Narender Modi who is expected to visit Shimla crossing Chandigarh. Apart from this, since the festive season is on, traffic chaos were also witnessed in the markets of City and the cops were seen deployed all around the corners on toes, and regulating traffic.
Even the city IPS officials were seen verifying the duties and checking the arrangements to ensure safety of both the VIPs. The tight schedule kept the officials of the administration moving all around.
A police official said that it was a tense day as the Home minster and Cabinet Minster were here while the PM is expected to land on Tuesday. Starting from security arrangements to all other arrangements till the VIPs were in the city, officials were on their toes.
We could not afford to have committed even a small mistake. Higher officials from the administration, health department, police and the municipal corporation have been involved for making arrangements for the VIPs visit, said the official. We cannot afford to relax till they were in the city and all of them had their own arrival and departure timings, added the official. The police security force had also been conducting the mock drills all over the town ensuring the safety of the PM during his visit. On Sunday, all officials took the charge of their duty in the morning itself. We have tried to maintain a balance between the security arrangements and the regular working of the city so that the residents can continue with their routine work, said Roshanlal, SP Communication. None of the roads were blocked today and people were made free to move towards their destination, added SP Communication.
