Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Police have arrested a woman and her lover for allegedly strangulating the woman’s husband to death. The accused have earlier claimed the incident to be a case of suicide.
According to the police, the accused has been identified as Maya (wife of the victim) and Manoj, the paramour of the accused woman.
Police sources said the incident was reported on February 8 when Maya had reported to the police that her husband had hanged himself after they had an argument over the victim’s habit of consuming liquor.
The victim, identified as Ram Bilas (32), a native of Bihar, was staying with his wife and child at Maloya and working as a scrap dealer.
Maya had stated to the police that she pulled her husband down and then he was rushed to hospital. The police had suspicion that the accused had concocted a story following which the police team initiated the investigation.
The post-mortem examination of the body revealed that the victim was strangulated to death and the police team also learnt that the accused woman had illicit relations with Manoj.
The woman and the accused were called for questioning during which the police team found that the duo strangulated the victim to death. The police team then registered a case under Section 302 (punishment for murder) at the Maloya police station. The accused have been arrested and investigation is under progress, said a police official.
