The Lab is set up in Karnal with a sanctioned Budget of Rs 11 crore and fully equipped with ultra modern machines and staff.
The Lab will help to conduct the test of Allopathic, ayurvedic and herbal medicines , also will enable to test cosmetics and food supplements.
Along with this, research and development wing is likely to take place in March

Poor quality of medicine resulting from intentional lapses in manufacturing often leads to disastrous consequences but now state government will eye on those defaulters as finally state is going to witness first high-tech medicine testing lab of North-India in Karnal. It will start on February 17. The state government had decided to set up medicine lab known as Common Facility Centre under Cluster Development Scheme in 2013. It will benefit health sector enabling department to conduct all kinds of testing of medicines offering accurate and clean testing services. Earlier, the departments was dependent on outer labs in other states lacking the facility of such lab.It is pertinent to mention that the lab is fully equipped with fully ultra modern machinery and capable of conducting sophisticated tests. It is also equipped with design centre, value added felicity and skill development centre. It has been built on 16000 covered area in Sector-3 of Karnal. The lab will help in maintaining drug quality and price. Government has sanctioned five clusters in state earlier including textiles, footwear and steel. The lab is aimed at strengthen the health sector of state. The testing of raw material, also will be conduct in lab. Apart from this, it will enable for the testing of finished goods. “Starting such lab is a revolutionary step in the health sector as it will enable us to conduct all king of test of medicine”, said the State Drug Controller, Narender Vivek Ahuja.
The lab will be fruitful in conducting research also and about 20-25 technical staff has been deployed to assist experts in the lab, he added. Prior to this, the hospitals and experts had to run other state for the testings of medicine resulting in a situation with the wastage of money , time and delay in testing. It came to light that Central and state government along with pharmaceutical association have made joint financial contribution to construct the lab. It is learnt that the testing of raw material will be conducted also in lab helping experts to noose around those involved in making counterfeit medicine. The concerned department has come up with a planning to start Research and Development(R&D) wing to conduct research in the field of pharmaceutical sciences. The wing is most likely to take place Either in the end of February or in starting of March. The president of pharmaceutical association, M L Sharma said that it will be lab of its own kind as there is no such lab in northern India.
