A two day capacity building workshop for counsellors on child protection laws and counselling practices is being held by Haryana state commission for protection of child rights in colloboration with department of education, govt of Haryana at Awas Bhawan in Panchkula. The workshop has been attended by the Counselors of conflict management and counselling centers established by department of education and counselors from project “Sukoon” of health department Haryana. The partcipants were enlightened on the issue of child sexual abuse and related legal framework. Jyoti Bainda, chairperson, haryana state commission for protection of child rights chaired the inaugural session and stated that it’s very important to identify cases of child abuse and reporting the cases of sexual offences to police.
She further emphasized that it is our major responsibility to protect the rights of our children and we should make efforts to raise happy and healthy children. She concluded saying “hum toh jaage hain aauron ko jagana hai.” The workshop had sessions by prof adarsh kohli, senior professor PGI Chandigarh addressed the partcipants on the concept of child sexual abuse, risk factors and the unique nature of child sexual abuse. The session on laws against child sexual abuse was conducted by sh manbir rathi, master trainer. Haryana state legal services authority who spoke in detail about the laws including compensation schemes for vicitims Another session specifically on techniques and therapies was conducted by ms arzoo, clinical psychologist, gmch 32 Chandigarh.
