SASE warns people not to venture out in avalanche prone areas
The government on Sunday put the state and district level emergency operation centers on high alert in the state. An official spokesperson said here that fresh rain/snowfall occurred in the Shimla, Kullu, Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti, Sirmour, Kangra, Solan and Chamba districts on Sunday. The Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE), Manali, on Sunday advised the people not to venture out in avalanche prone slopes which are still loaded with snow. The advisory has been issued for Shimla, Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu and Kinnaur districts till Monday. He said that as per the Public Works Department the total number of roads closed in the state are 484 out of these 78 roads would be cleared by Sunday evening. As many as 216 roads would be opened on Monday and remaining 190 roads shortly, he said. Loss to the PWD has been assessed about Rs. 67.43 crore which may increase after final assessment and damage to the roads. A total of 205 machines have been deployed for restoration of the roads. The spokesperson said that as per the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board out of 1,505 affected DTRs, 644 have been restored and balance 859 DTRs would be restored soon.
