Bhog ceremony concludes at the Golden Temple complex
Senior Badal says we had come for atonement, not for politics
It was the day of redemption for the senior leadership of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) as they sought guidance from the ‘waheguru’ to help them serve the ‘panth’ with utmost dedication and humility and with malice towards none. “O Lord bless your sewaks so that they continue to do sewa for the chardi kala (glory) of the Sikh panth, which they have been serving in the past “, were the words from the ‘ardas’ (prayer) which was recited soon after the ‘bhog’ of the ‘akhand paath’ came to a close at Gurdwara Baba Gurbakshah Singh Ji Sheedh inside the Akal Takht complex of the Golden Temple here on Monday. The ‘akhand paath’ or recitation of ‘gurbani’ from the Guru Granth Sahib had commenced on Saturday and came to a close today after which the ‘ardas’ was recited to signal the redemption of the SAD leaders from the ‘mistakes’ which they may have committed ‘knowingly or unknowingly’ during their 10-year rule in Punjab in alliance with the BJP. The ‘ardas’ recalled the glorious manner in which the SAD under the leadership of former chief minister and party patron Parkash Singh Badal and the party president Sukhbir Singh Badal had been serving the ‘panth’. “ While doing ‘sewa’ your ‘sewaks’ may have committed certain mistakes. We pray to you (god) to forgive your ‘sewaks’ for their past mistakes and take them in your fold so that they continue to serve the ‘panth’ with zeal and for the ‘chardi kala’ (glory) of the entire Sikh community”, the words from the ‘ardas’ rent the air in the shrine where a large number of Akali leaders and workers had come for taking part in the religious ceremony held for atonement of the ‘mistakes’ of the past by the party leadership. Besides the two Badals the other main leaders who participated in the ‘bhog’ included Union Minister for Food Processing Harsimrat Kaur Badal and her brother and former minister Bikram Sing Majithia, SGPC chief Gobind Singh Longowal, former head of the religious body Bibi Jagir Kaur and several former ministers including Gulzar Singh Ranike, Daljit Singh Cheema, Parminder Singh Dhindsa and Jathedar Tota Singh. Several former and present MLAs including Lakhbir Singh Lodinangal, Harmeet Singh Sandhu were also present. Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Manjit Singh GK was also there as were several SGPC members. The immortal words from the ‘gurbani’ as rendered by the ‘ragis’ who performed ‘kirtan’ during the ceremony referred to the SAD leaders as humble ‘sewaks’ who have approached the ‘waheguru’ seeking forgiveness. ‘ Kirpa kar bakash leyo’ (We plead for forgiveness) , were the words that rang when the ‘kirtan’ was being performed, in an obvious reference to the SAD leaders who had approached the ‘guru’ for forgiveness. At the close of the ‘kirtan’ the immortal words from ‘gurbani’ —–’ Satguru ki sewa safal hai, Ram naam chit laye’ ( our sewa or penance has been successful and brought us closer to god), sent heads bowing before the Guru Granth Sahib. After obtaining ‘parsad’ the Akali leaders including Sukhbir Badal, his wife Mrs Badal and Majithia departed silently.
