THE BOMB WAS FIRST NOTICED BY MNREGA WORKERS, WHO WERE CLEANING A CANAL IN BHANDAL BET VILLAGE AND IMMEDIATELY INFORMED THEIR OFFICIALS
Panic spread in Dhilwan in Kapurthala district, after a live 81 mm mortar bomb was recovered from a ‘nullah’ in Bhandal Bet village on Wednesday afternoon. A team of Kapurthala district administration requisitioned Army’s Bomb Squad Unit from Beas Military Station and cordoned off the area. The bomb was first noticed by MNREGA workers, who were cleaning a canal in Bhandal Bet village and immediately informed their officials.
Incidentally, the bomb was found from near the boundary wall of Government Senior Secondary School in the village. As soon as the information spread, the district administration immediately got the school vacated. The school would remain closed on Thursday too. SP (Investigation) Satnam Singh said that the Bomb Squad Unit from Beas had cordoned off the area and the bomb would be disposed off on Thursday morning. “Prima Facie, it seems that someone must have thrown the bomb from Beas firing range. A probe was on to ascertain that how a live bomb was found in a nallah in the village”, he said.
