MALE FRIEND OF THE GIRL WAS LOCKED IN THE CAR

In a horrific incident, more than ten persons gangraped a 20-year old girl after kidnapping her when she was celebrating Valentine’s Week with her male friend. Three of the accused kidnapped the couple and called their accomplices. Around one dozen accused persons first demanded a ransom from the couple and later raped the girl. Following the incident, the police swung into action and formed various teams to trace and arrest accused. The incident happened on Saturday night but the victim and her male friend lodged a complaint on Sunday evening. The medical examination of the victim was conducted on Monday and police officials, along with the forensic experts and a technical support team visited the spot and initiated further investigation.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ludhiana Range Ranbir Singh Khatra said that they have registered an FIR on the statement of the victim. They are collecting evidence and will trace the accused. Till now, they don’t have any clue but police teams were formed to investigate the matter from all angles and arrest the accused. On Saturday night, three accused first intercepted the car of the victims and later overpowered them. The accused took the victim to an abandoned place and gang raped her. The accused made the male friend of girl hostage and locked him in the car. At around 2 am, the accused fled from the spot after they got a hint about the police patrolling. Before leaving, the accused took away cash and gold from the victim.
Victim narrates horrific tale
The victim, who is a student in a college, recorded her statement before the police in which she stated that on Saturday evening she, along with her friend, was celebrating Valentine’s Week. At 8 pm, they were going towards South City in their i20 car. At around 8.30 pm, three persons (one turbaned and two clean-shaven) on a motorcycle started following their car.
ASI suspended for negligence in duty
During investigation, DIG Ludhiana Range Ranbir Singh Khatra suspended ASI Vidya Rattan who was on duty at the Dakha police station on Saturday night. The DIG said that the friend of the victim, who received a call for ransom, informed the Duty Officer at the police station. The officer accompanied the complainant but didn’t inform his senior police officials.
State unsafe for women: AAP MLA
Reacting strongly, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Jagraon Saravjit Kaur Manuke condemned the incident and said that the “jungle raj” prevails in the state. She said that there is no rule of law and the people, mainly women, were feeling unsafe in the city. She criticism the staff at the government hospital as no lady doctor was available for several hours for the medical examination of the victim.
